A screenshot is the easiest input a table converter gets. The pixels are exact rather than photographed, so there is no blur, no lens distortion, no shadow, and nothing is skewed. If a table can be converted at all, a screenshot of it usually can. That makes screenshots the practical answer to a common problem: a table on a web page you cannot select, inside a dashboard that has no export, or in a document someone sent as an image. You cannot copy it, but you can capture it. The one thing that still goes wrong is what you include in the frame.

How to how to turn a screenshot of a table into Excel

  1. 1Capture just the table. Crop out surrounding page furniture — navigation, sidebars and footers give the column detector spurious whitespace to work with.
  2. 2Include the header row. It is what labels your columns in the output, and it costs nothing to capture.
  3. 3If the table scrolls, take several overlapping screenshots and upload them together rather than stitching them by hand.
  4. 4Download the .xlsx and check the header row landed in row 1 before you sort or filter.

Questions people ask

Is a screenshot better than a photo?

Usually, yes — clearly so. A screenshot has no skew, no blur and even lighting by definition, which removes the three things that break column detection. If you have the choice, screenshot it.

Can I screenshot a table that scrolls off the page?

Take several overlapping shots and upload them together; they are read as one run. Overlap by a row or two so nothing falls in the gap between captures.

What about a dark-mode screenshot?

Light text on a dark background reads fine. Contrast is what matters, not which way round it is.

Why is my header repeated across several columns?

A header cell merged across columns extracts once per column it spans, because in the image it genuinely covers all of them. Delete the duplicates in Excel, or re-capture with the merged row cropped out.
