What Doclium does

Doclium lets you upload or scan documents and ask questions about them. To answer, your document text and question are sent to our server and then to an AI model to generate the response. That model is operated by a third-party AI provider — your document text and questions are sent to that provider's API to generate answers, summaries, and translations. This is a change from Doclium's earlier fully self-hosted setup, made because self-hosted inference on our own infrastructure was too slow to be usable. We may return to self-hosted inference, or offer a choice between the two, in the future — this page will be updated if that changes.

What we store

• The documents you upload or scan (as PDF files) and the text extracted from them.
• Your questions and the answers Doclium gives you (chat history), so you can come back to a document later.
• A random device identifier generated by the app, stored on your device, used to keep your documents separate from everyone else's. This is not an account — there is no name, email, or password attached to it, and we cannot recover your documents if you clear your app data or reinstall on a new device.

What we don't do

• We do not sell your data.
• We do not use your documents, questions, or chat history to train our own models.
• We do not share your documents with third parties other than the AI provider described above, solely to generate the answer/summary/translation you asked for. We don't share documents for any other purpose (advertising, analytics, etc).

Data in transit and at rest

All traffic between the app and our server is encrypted (HTTPS/TLS). Documents are stored on our server for as long as your account/device keeps them, until you delete them.

Deleting your data

Deleting a document in the app permanently removes it and its chat history from our server.

Camera and photo access

Doclium's scan feature uses your camera or photo library only when you choose to scan a document. Photos you capture are processed the same way as any other uploaded document (see above) and are not accessed for any other purpose.
